A bank that cares about the environment

Being the largest bank in the country, Raiffeisen Bank in Kosova seeks to lead by example in protecting the environment through innovative projects and sustainable practice.

In May this year, drones flew high above the forests in Prishtina. However, this time it wasn’t to take photos but to assist in re- forestation efforts in the area. As part of the Green Wings initiative, supported by the bank, drones were utilized to revitalize these forests in the capital.

Such initiatives are ideally aligned with our bank's dedication to the environment, and we have actively supported several projects aimed at increasing and promoting environmental sustainability.

This year alone, the bank also supported the UNDP Kosovo’s Boost Kosovo, a program which intends to prepare businesses to adapt to climate change impacts while accelerating the shift towards sustainable business practices. The bank has been a partner in the program for two editions (2023 and 2024). In January, the bank reached an important agreement with the EBRD which will further help businesses towards green transition.

Additionally, the bank is dedicated to fostering responsible banking for a more sustainable future by implementing eco-friendly practices in-house.

In this regard, the bank has installed solar panels and increased the number of hybrid cars in its fleet. These in-house efforts have been recognized, and the bank has been awarded the ISO 14001 certification, a globally recognized standard for
Environmental Management Systems (EMS).

Last year, the bank also began publishing its Sustainability Report, marking it as the first bank in Kosovo to do so.

Vesa Paca, who coordinates activities as part of the ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) agenda within the bank, emphasizes that everyone can contribute to a greener world.

"We believe that everyone has a role in preserving and restoring the environment for future generations. Today, as we mark World Environment Day, we are especially reminded of the urgent need to act,” she says.

"By integrating ESG principles into our banking operations, we are committed to sustainable practices that benefit the environment and create long-term value for our business and community," she adds.

Being the largest bank in the country, Raiffeisen Bank in Kosova remains committed to leading by example in environmental sustainability and responsible banking practices. As we continue to advocate for a greener future, our efforts extend beyond mere words to tangible actions that make a difference.
